The Importance of Self Reflection and Self-Love
Our External World Mirrors our Internal World
Our external world mirrors our internal world. The challenges and relationships that we find ourselves in reflects our internal thoughts and emotions, the level of self-love, unconditional love, kindness and self-acceptance we hold for ourselves within our hearts.
Throughout my life it has been a level of self-attack, mind overpowering my heart, self-love has never until recently, been something that came “naturally” to me, it was always something I rejected or felt repulsed by, the thoughts were like I was undeserving to receive, I have carried a heavy voice of inner criticism and self-judgement. In my mid-teens I was bulimic, something that I have until now, felt ashamed of being and have voiced only to a select few, hence this act of opening one’s heart to an unknown audience through this writing, I place myself in a perceived vulnerable state, yet in a space of self-love and acceptance.
Normally it would have raised a huge wave of stone cold fear within me, within my gut, my stomach, bringing panic and the fear of not being good enough, the fear of being rejected. Which now writing seeing this in black and white, it occurs to me that making myself sick was an act to release this burden the heaviness of fear residing in my stomach, my solar plexus, where suppressed fears of emotion are stored.
Yet throughout this last year or more, I have walked within a path of trust, a path of surrendering to only love and light. This path of trust has highlighted, brought to the surface my deep rooted fears that no longer serve me, and gradually, step by step I have become more liberated by teasing free of the grips of fear that has suffocated and restricted me in my life. Upon opening of my heart in a state of trust I open myself to receive more love, and the first person I need to love and hold love for, is me, creating a self-loving environment around me to support and heal. Opening one’s heart is like tapping into and creating a stronger connection to the internal power, strength and energy of my heart, thus creating more opportunities, more love and joy in my life, more self-acceptance and peace within.
For when we trust to open our hearts, to allow oneself to be “vulnerable” we are being held by the energy and frequency of our hearts, we are tapping into this immense strength and power already within us, it becomes our anchor of support. Metaphysics has proven, that Energy attracts Energy, hence when we connect and open to the frequency the energetic waves of love and joy, we only receive the same frequency in return, amplifying through the law of constructive wave interference. We gradually become our own beacon of light and love transmitting and receiving the expansive frequency of love and joy in its entirety.
As a baby we are born with this light and love in us, it is what created us. Within a month or so of a new-born baby’s life, once they know their basic needs will be attended to, the first interaction with their carer and guardian is a smile, a smile that becomes this beautiful deep connection that quite simply melts ones heart, a connection and exchange of unconditional love.
This expanding, infinite love becomes more constricted and reserved depending on one’s life’s experiences, the environment which we are exposed to when growing up throughout our foundation years, from conception to early twenties; how the patterns from our guardians/parents are imprinted within us; moulding into restrictive socially “acceptable” behaviours and old belief systems, fuelled by the primitive fear of rejection or not being good enough. An example of an un-serving old belief system are the words “to love oneself”, which are perceived to be arrogant, that it is a negative state of being however, when we reflect on this rather than simply accepting, why should loving oneself be anything but beautiful?
These experiences triggers the formation of walls within our hearts, for the fear of rejection and hurt, our deep rooted base survival instincts, constricting and dimming this joyous expanding energy that is naturally within us, thus closing the opportunities of how much love and joy we receive. We are a transmitter, a beacon of our internal thoughts and thus the external world reflects this back to us to see, however, this reflection within events and relationships are often seen as confirmation of our thoughts, hence a continuation cycle of these thought patterns and being.
Therefore, for us to grow and create, to expand our lives of opportunities, abundance, love, joy and happiness, we need to allow time and space to reflect within, to understand what frequency we are transmitting into the world. To create a self-loving, kind non-judgemental supportive space that provides a foundation to understand what no longer serves us joy and restricts us from being our true potential, our brightest light.
To seek objectively with transparency, to shine the light upon one’s self-created obstacles, fears, thoughts, emotions and belief systems that have become ingrained within us, through our life’s experiences and traumas stored on a physical cellular level, which become a state of contraction, diminishing our joy.
I have such creative ideas and visions, which light me up, however at times a sudden stone laden fear lands heavily in my gut, shaking and unnerving me, telling me that it is not possible, that it is too scary, too hard, it/I will not be good enough, which is encouraging me to shrink back within as it is saying “it’s safer here…it’s safer in this shadow of fear”, at least I know what will happen, right? However, nothing necessarily positive will happen if I remain in this restrictive state of fear, it would be a self-perpetuating cycle of events, upon which my growth is limited.
Upon recognition of this internal critique and voice I have the choice to decide whether to tune into the frequency of love, to choose love instead, to forge a coherence of heart and mind. Through raw and honest self-reflection in the space of self-love and self-acceptance I am liberated from the chains of restrictions and become the co-creator of my life, my journey…
Take time to tune in, to self-reflect and to connect with one’s heart, the inner anchor and strength of our being.
